Hazardous chemicals found in many consumer products
An EU-wide enforcement project of the ECHA Forum found excessive levels of hazardous chemicals, such as lead and phthalates, in products that are sold to consumers. In total 18 % of the inspected products breached the EU laws.
In December 2022, the ECHA published the results of the enforcement project REF-10 covering REACH restrictions, duties applicable to substances in articles under REACH, POP restrictions and restrictions derived from the Toys and the ROHS Directives. Among others, the Phthalates, Pb, Ni, and PFOA were in focus.
